Every student desiring to learn and earn a CPS high school diploma deserves every opportunity to succeed.
That is the mission of Ombudsman Chicago High Schools.
We’re here to provide alternative paths to learning that speak to the needs of non-traditional students including students coping with adult responsibilities, students who lost their way and left high school too soon, students with a history of poor academic performance, and students who would benefit from a quieter learning environment with one-to-one attention and small group settings. Working together, Ombudsman students and teachers focus on building trust and the positive relationships that are vital for promoting high levels of academic, social, and behavioral growth.
Since opening as a member of the Chicago Options School Program in 2013, thousands of students have attended Ombudsman Chicago and graduated with a CPS diploma.
Ombudsman Chicago is a company of ChanceLight, the nation’s leading provider of alternative and special education solutions for children and young adults. Ombudsman Chicago is accredited by Cognia, an international education accrediting organization.

About Chancelight
ChanceLight, our parent company, has stood at the intersection of education, care, and possibility—working to change the direction of young people’s lives. This anniversary marks 50 years of unwavering commitment, innovation, and most importantly, hope.
Hope has always been the heartbeat of Ombudsman Chicago’s mission. It fuels our belief that every student—regardless of circumstance—deserves the opportunity to thrive. It inspires educators, counselors, and families to envision brighter futures, even when the road ahead is uncertain. And it empowers young people to dream beyond the barriers they face.
Over the past five decades, we’ve witnessed how data-driven strategies, personalized support, and compassionate guidance can come together to spark meaningful and lasting change. Behind every success is a story—of resilience, of growth, and of lives transformed. As we celebrate 50 years of impact and look ahead to the future, we honor the transformative power of hope. It remains our most vital resource—and our greatest promise to the students and families we serve.
